Sunscreen: Who Killed My Sunscreen? A Case of a Product Death by Science!

Sep 28, 2026 | 1330 - 1630

John STATON, ASCC Life Member and IFSCC Fellow with over 30 years in the sunscreen development and testing area, will lead us through a close to real-life investigation of the demise of the (imaginary) product: “Zinc & Sail” and explore the preventative steps that should have been taken prior to product launch.

The Test Case.. Pre-armed with your copy of the “hard” evidence and presented with opinions from our Expert Witnesses, you will become a de-facto jury member as we explore the mystery of the investigation of the events which might have led up to the death of a prominent sun protection product. Set sail for an inter-active workshop exploring the issues for a complex product category of Cosmetic Science. We explore the many factors which, without due diligence, interplay to potentially end the life cycle of a product prematurely.

Kings Park Botanical Gardens

Oct 02, 2026

Western Australia’s botanical diversity offers a vast frontier for cosmetic science, underpinned by 40,000 years of Indigenous knowledge. This ASCC workshop at Kings Park bridges ethnobotany and chemical science, focusing on the phytochemistry, bioactivity, and formulation potential of native species. Attendees will analyse the molecular profiles of unique extracts and essential oils, exploring how traditional medicinal plants are transformed into modern cosmetic actives. Led by an ASCC representative, the session covers the extraction processes and application science of these ingredients. This holistic experience combines conservation research with hands-on technical evaluation; all set against the backdrop of the vibrant Spring blooming season.
