Or are you someone working with gamblers or affected others in government or in venues who has always wondered what actually happens in clinical treatment?

If so, this workshop is right up your alley!

  • Skills to confidently identify individuals at risk of or experiencing gambling harm.
  • Skills on how to reduce distress and promote ongoing help-seeking behaviours for those affected.

  • A foundational understanding of cognitive and behavioural approaches in treating problem gambling behaviours (CBT).
  • Insights into why some individuals relapse despite the harms they face.

Pre-Conference Workshop - Preventing and Mitigating Gambling Harm in Venues: A Practical Approach with Jay Robinson

Nov 20, 2024 | 0900 - 1200

Jay Robinson, a leading global expert on responding to gambling harm in venues, has developed a unique workshop focused on preventing gambling harm among the most vulnerable groups.

Jay brings to the workshop extensive experience in the design of training programs to respond to gambling harm across Australia, Canada, the US and the UK for the past 20 years.

This session is designed to address the complexities of gambling-related issues, especially in people who gamble unaffordably, but may not exhibit typical observable signs of harm.

In this workshop, Jay will cover:

  • Identifying Hidden Signs: Learn how to recognise subtle indicators of gambling harm in people who may not show obvious signs, such as financial stress, emotional changes, or erratic behavior.
  • Targeted Prevention Strategies: Discover tailored approaches to preventing gambling harm among vulnerable groups, including low-income people and those who gamble beyond their means.
  • Effective Communication Techniques: Gain skills for engaging in sensitive conversations with people who may not self-identify as having a problem or who are reluctant to seek help.
  • Using Loyalty Programs and other Data to Identify Gambling Harms: Explore how loyalty data available to venues can be used to identify harm.
  • Practical Tools and Resources: Explore resources and tools for providing support, including financial management strategies and counselling options tailored to people who gamble unaffordably.

This session is particularly valuable for operators, regulators, and help professionals, as it provides actionable insights and strategies to enhance their intervention and support efforts.

By understanding subtle signs of harm and effective prevention techniques, participants will be better equipped to develop policies and practices that safeguard vulnerable people and promote safer gambling.
