Conference Workshops

Workshop 1 - Operationalising Safer Gambling: Culture, Accountability & Real-World Action – By Jay Robinson

Nov 17, 2025 | 0900 - 1200

This session is for anyone working to prevent and reduce gambling harm: whether you’re in the C-Suite or on the frontline of operations, shaping policy, delivering treatment, doing research, or bringing lived experience. Together, we’ll explore what it really takes to make safer gambling part of everyday practice.

Through interactive activities and real-world examples, we will unpack what works (and what doesn’t) when using the best evidence to shift safer gambling culture, improve training, or make systems more responsive. Participants will leave with practical ideas and a little more inspiration. This session is a working checkpoint where participants can test ideas, share what works, and stay grounded in the intersection of best thinking, best practice, and lived experience.

About the Presenter

Jay Robinson is an internationally recognised expert in safer gambling strategy, training, and knowledge mobilisation. Known for turning evidence into action, they bring clarity, creativity, and practical impact to complex systems. Their work bridges research, frontline insight, and lived experience to drive measurable change in gambling environments. A trusted voice across sectors, Jay designs programs that are inclusive, grounded, and built to leave participants with something they can actually use.

Workshop 2 - Tailoring Therapy for Gambling: A Complex Systems Approach – By Dr Fadi Anjoul

Nov 17, 2025 | 0900 - 1200

Most programs treat gambling like a substance habit: they focus on strategies to cope with or manage the urge to gamble. This workshop proposes a decisive shift.

What if you could eliminate the urge instead?

We show that each major form of gambling - electronic gaming machines, wagering and casino table games - creates its own “misinformed attraction”.

By deconstructing the game-specific gambling mindset to first principles and isolating the core drivers of attraction, you can hit a few high-leverage spots that fundamentally change the relationship to gambling. This helps neutralise the urge to gamble rather than having to contain it, and lowers the risk of relapse.

Participants will learn to:

  • Map the base components of the gambling mindset
  • Pinpoint cognitive shifts that trigger large behavioural change
  • Design structured modules with interventions tailored to different forms of gambling

About the Presenter

Dr Fadi Anjoul is a clinical psychologist and the originator of a first-principles, complex-systems approach created specifically for gambling. Over the past three decades, he has directly worked with several hundred gamblers, and trained over a hundred clinicians in delivering a modular framework he developed for deconstructing “misinformed attraction” to gambling.
